`It`s president`s duty to sign law passed by parliament`

LAHORE: Former Punjab governor and PPP South Punjab President Makhdum Ahmed Mehmud says the issue with the alliance with the PML-N will not be resolved as long as the two coalition partners do not adopt a give-andtake approach.

He expressed these views while addressing a birthday ceremony of Aseefa Bhutto at the People`s Secretariat in Model Town here on Monday. The event was organisedby Bhutto Legacy Foundation Chairman Bashir Riaz to celebrate the 32nd birthday of Ms BhuttoZardari.

The former governor emphasized the need to sit together and resolve all contentious issues collectively by the two parties.

Responding to a question related to signing of the Pakistan Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Act 2025 by President Asif Ali Zardari despite his party opposing the law, Mr Mahmud said it`s the duty of the president and governors to sign the bills passed by the assembly and President Zardari fulfilled his duty by signing Pe ca.

He clarified that he was not part of the negotiations on Peca and he could not say anything else about itexcept that personally he was opposed to any kind of restrictions on expression of views.

Those who attended the celebration included MNA Samina Khalid Ghurki, MPA Shazia Abid, Faisal Mir, Rana Jawad, Abdul Qadir Shaheen, Nargis Khan, Dr Ayesha Shoukat, Shahida Jabeen and others.

Meanwhile, former federal ministers Syed Khursheed Shah and Qamar Zaman Kaira visited senior PPP leader Naveed Chaudhry who underwent a thyroplasty procedure at a local hospital in Defence Housing Authority.

Chaudhry Manzoor, Aslam Gill, Usman Malik, Mian Ayub, Sajjad Nazeer and others also visited the hospital and inquired about the health of Naveed Chaudhry.
