Boulder kills three miners MINGORA, March 3: A mining engineer was among three people killed and a labourer was injured when a huge boulder rolling down a hill hit them at an emerald mine here on Sunday.
Eyewitnesses said that the victims were present at the entrance of the emerald mine when the rock rolled down on them and buried them alive.
Other labourers present on the spot immediately started rescue work and retrieved the dead and the injured from the debris. The victims included mining engineer Abrar, labourers Mohammad Haroon and Khurshid Ali.-Correspondent CD, mobile shops destroyed GHALANAI, March 3: Two CD and mobile phone shops were destroyed and some adjacent shops were damaged when unidentified miscreants set on fire a market at Mian Mandi bazaar of Haleemzai tehsil on the night between Saturday and Sunday.
Residents said the incident occurred after some accused sprinkled petrol on the two shops and set fire to these.
Following the incident, the security forces reached the spot and conducted a search operation in the adjoining areas.
During the search operation, four guards of the market and some other people were arrested under the collective responsibility law of the Frontier Crimes Regulations. The arrested persons were shifted to Ghallanai lockup.-Correspondent Land dispute claims life PESHAWAR, March 3: One person was killed and another sustained injuries when two groups exchanged fire over a land dispute in Hazar Khwani village here on Sunday.
Pandu police station officials said two groups opened fire on each other over a disputed land. One Sajid Khan was killed from the one group while Wasiuallah, belonging to the other group, sustained injuries. Police registered FIR against the accused and started investigation.-Bureau Report Man shoots father dead NOWSHERA, March 3: A man was killed allegedly by his son over a dispute on his second marriage at Pir Sabaq area here on Sunday.
Officials said Sardaraz Khan, resident of Pir Sabaq, received bullet injuries when his son Kashif opened fire on him. The accused was annoyed with his father over his second marriage.
The police said that Sardarz Khan died while being taken to the district headquarters hospital. The accused escaped from the area after the incident.
Later, a sister of Kashif registered FIR in Akora Khattak police station and said they were at home when her brother started indiscriminate fire on her father and killed him.-Correspondent Teachers` promotion hailed TIMERGARA, March 3: The teachers` organisations on Sunday lauded the promotion of more than 2,500 low grade government schoolteachers in Lower Dir district and said the credit goes to provincial Education Minister Sardar Hussain Babak.
However, teachers` organisations rejected the further posting and adjustment policy of the upgraded schoolteachers and demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to allow them to work at their own stations.
Addressing a news conference at the Timergara Press Club, the Lower Dir chapter of Malgari Ustazan announced to celebrate promotion of the government schoolteachers for a week.
The sub-divisional president of the MU Wilayat Khan, general secretary Irfan Takoro, joint secretary Mohammad Rafique and others said it was a great achievement of the organisation that succeeded to win attractive scales for teachers. They, however, demanded of the authorities to review adjustment policy of the upgraded teachers.
Meanwhile, the Ittehad-i-Asateza and Tanzeem-iAsateza groups also appreciated the upgradation of teachers -Correspondent Training course for widows MINGORA, March 3: Mingora Welfare Development Organisation (WWDO) with the support of USAID has started a course to impart skill development training to 120 widows and poor women in two union councils of the Swat valley.
This was stated by Gul Khandana, chairman of WWDO, while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the six-month training course held here the other day.
The USAID will sponsor the programme in two union councils -Arkot and Gwaleri -of Matta tehsil to make the poor women stand on their feet.
Under the programme a total of 120 women belonging to affected families will get training in sewing and crafting.
Gul Khandana said Matta had been badly affected due to militancy `so we want to help the orphan girls and widows to get training to earn livelihoods for their families` Social welfare department chairman Hamid Khan said his department was fully cooperating with all NGOs working in different areas of Swat. -Correspondent Wolf attack victims get relief CHITRAL, March 3: The villagers who had been wounded in an attack by a Himalayan wolf have been compensated by the WWF A wolf had entered a house in Melp village of Torkhow valley of upper Chitral a few days ago, injuring family members, who were admitted to the DHQ hospital.
The filed biologist of Chitral region of WWF Shafiqullah Khan handed over the relief amounting to Rs10,000 to the head of the family Mohammad Ayub in Chitral Press Club on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Khan praised the local people for abiding by the wildlife laws and not killing the attacking animals.
He said Chitral was the richest district in biodiversity and carried a great leverage to create employment opportunities and thereby reduce poverty by its proper management.
He said the WWF had contributed in the preservation of wildlife in the area. -Correspondent Consensus candidate KARAK, March 3: A jirga of Banda Daud Shah tehsil of Karak district has decided to bring a consensus candidate for the provincial assembly constituency of PK-40, Karak-L The jirga, which was held in Teri area, was also attended by the office-bearers of all political parties. The political leaders resolved to support the candidate of Banda Daud Shah tehsil beyond their political affiliations.
The jirga was attended among others by former MNA and member of central executive committee of PTI Shamsur Rehman, former provincial minister Sher Nawaz Khattak, JFs former district president and NA candidate Maulana Tasleem Iqbal, ANP`s district president Usman advocate, PML-N`s Dr Waheed Shah, JUI-F`s Maulana Fazlullah and former tehsil nazim Hameedullah.
The speakers resolved to support the consensus candidate from Banda Daud Shah and withdraw the election candidates of their parties.
The jirga formed local committees at the union council level to mobilise the people for the consensus candidate.-Correspondent
