HDA workers threaten to disrupt civic services

HYDERABAD: Disgruntled employees of the Hyderabad Development Authority on Monday threatened to disrupt water supply and sewerage system of the city if they were not paid salary within a couple of days.

They took out a procession, which started from Haider Chowk and terminated at the press club, to protest against non-payment of salary for the past seven months.

HDA Mehran Workers Union president Raja Khan Palari, general secretary Mohammad Aslam Abbasi and others who led the protest said that around 1,400 contractual or work-charge employees had not been paid salary for the past seven months, 1,300 regular workers had been deprived of salary for the past four months and at least 450 retired employees had not been paid pensions for the past four months.

Besides, about 150 employees who retired four years ago had not been given their gratuity and other allowances, they said and made an appeal to the government to immediately offer a bailout package to the HDA to enable it to pay salaries to its employees and provide adequate services to people.
