Nazim accuses accountability bodies of corruption

KARAK: Karak Tehsil Nazim Abdul Wahab Khattak has accused the officials of accountability agencies of receiving bribes and letting the corrupt elements of f the hook.

Talking to media persons here on Friday, he said that installation of pressure pumps had become a profitable business in the district, but the NAB and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission were not acting against the elements making quick bucks. He alleged that the anti-corruption of ficials were visiting the district just for getting their shares instead of taking action against the corrupt elements.

The tehsil nazim demanded of the authorities to ensure across the board accountability to end the menace in the district.

Mr Khattak said the tehsil municipal administration, Karak, was facing financial crunch due to which it was unable to even pay salary of its employees.

He claimed that the district government received only Rs80 million for development in the current fiscal year which was insufficient in the face of thehuge problems.

The tehsil nazim criticised the provincial government for not transferring powers to the grassroots level in true sense.

COLLEGE SHORT OF STAFF: The students of government degree college, Banda Daud Shah, have demanded of the government to remove shortage of staf f and provide basic f acilities, including transport, in the college.

The demand was made at a meeting on Friday. The participants said the college had been established 15 years ago but still it was deprived of basic facilities. They said mostly poor students were studying in the college, but their precious time was being wasted owing to shortage of teachers. They also demanded supply of drinking water to the college, and provision of transport facility for the students coming from remote areas.

The students also complained about the electricity loadshedding in the district, which was badly affecting their preparations for the upcoming exams, and urged the government to reduce the loadshedding duration.-Correspondent
