THE Senate chairman was in an angry mood recently as his orders for the production of under-detention senators from the main opposition party had not been followed. It reminded me that the chairman had himself disobeyed a Supreme Courtorder for which he was held in contempt.
It was in 2012 when the then chief justice instructed the office of the prime minister to write a letter to the Swiss government to reopen the dormant investigation against the highest office in the land in a case of money laundering. However, he refused, taking the plea that the president had immunity. This was not accepted by the court, and the prime minister had to face the consequences. I do not want to draw any parallel between the two instances, but the idea is just to remember that what goes around comes around.
