Karak police arrest arms smugglers

KOHAT: The Karak police arrested two men the other day for trying to smuggle a large quantity of weapons and ammunition.

Sources said the car carried the seized goods, hidden in the car`s secret cavities, from Darra Adamkhel of Kohat.

They said smugglers Khurram and Payo Khan crossed three posts of the Frontier Constabulary in Darra Adamkhel, one of the police at the Southern Portal of the Pakistan-Japan Friendship Tunnel, two of customs and excise at the toll plaza in Kohat and one on the Karak border, before being caught.

The police said they stopped the car on suspicion and recovered nine SMGs, 35 pistols, two 12-bore repeaters, four Kalakovs, 12,135 cartridges, 80 SMG chargers and five chargers of 30-bore pistols.

They said the detainees were booked under sections of 15-AA and 17-AA of the Arms Act.

Meanwhile, a man was killed and five suffered injuries in road accidents here on Thursday.

A pickup and passenger vans collided in the Sumari area of Lachi tehsil, killing Zahir Shah on the spot and injuring Malang. Both belonged to Darra Adamkhel.

The body and the injured were taken to the KDA divisional headquarters hospital by the Rescue 1122`s medical team. In the Darra Adamkhel, a car turned upside down due to speeding, injuring all those on board. The injured, including Shamshad, Saud, Huzefa and Wahidullah, all from Bannu district, were shifted to the hospital.

POWER BREAKDOWN:A power breakdown has hit Hangu`s Kahiunion council for the last five days, causing severe water shortage and affecting business activity.

Students also complained they`re struggling to prepare for exams. The area has a population of 34,369 people, with several bazaars and hundreds of shops.

Elder Darwsh told Dawn on Thursday that the prolonged power outage was caused after a light rain, paralysing life.

He said the Pesco suspended power supply for several days even after light rain fell.

The elder said loadshedding for19 hours daily was common.

He demanded of authorities to step in to ensure12hour scheduled loadshedding. Correspondent
