Religious leaders call for raising awareness against terrorism

ISLAMABAD: Leaders from almost all the religious sects in the country on Wednesday called on religious and political organisations to raise awareness against terrorism and extremism.
The decision was made at a national conference titled `Stability of Pakistan Conference` hosted by the Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) where it was unanimously decided that elements responsible for prop-agating extremism and sectarian violence are not representatives of the Muslim world.
Participants demanded the prime minister summon an all parties` conference for discussing the challenges being faced by the country.
`We demand that political and religious organisations of the country be patient in regards to the Panama Leaks issue and wait for the court`s verdict because enemies of the state will want to encourage anarchy, said PUC Chairman Hafiz Mohammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, who presided over the conference.
Speakers at the conference agreed that political and religious organisations should stay away from controversies.
Political and religious leaders should adopt a democratic attitude and unite for foiling the conspiracies of the enemies ofPakistan, they said.
Tehreek Itehad Islami Pakistan`s Allama Sajjad Naqvi appreciated PUC`s efforts for the stability of the country. He spoke about the life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and recited several verses from the Holy Quran to explain that fanaticism and radicalism were not part of Islam.
He said Islam has always encouraged inclusiveness and called on the PUC to encourage discussions and dialogue among various factions to settle disputes.
Similar views were expressed by Jamiat Ahl-i-Hadees` Maulana Ghulam Ullah Khan who said political and religious leaders should be patient and that the enemies of the country were dividing the nation by playing on minor differences between sects.
Other speakers said action should betaken against those responsible for terrorism and extremism and supported military action against terrorism.
The speakers endorsed the Raddul Fassadoperationandhopeditwilleradicate terrorism, extremism and sectarian violence from Pakistan and suggested all of the Muslim world should come together for the annihilation of terrorism and extremism and for an ideological alliance among the Muslims.
During the conference, it was announced that May 5 will be observed as Stability of Pakistan Day and speakers demanded the government and security agencies expose the nefarious demands of Indian and Afghan security agencies against Pakistan and that the government expose anti-Pakistan activities conducted by these agencies at international forums.
