OF late one reads a lot of letters in newspapers written by pensioners and senior citizens complaining about their meagre pensions and low profit rates on Behbood Certificates/Pensioners Benefit Accounts. However, the government seems to be least interested in helping them out.
Political leaders, both in government and in the opposition, prefer beating drums about their own interests only.
TV talk shows and investigative reports aim at improving individual ratings only.

The government provides relief to the serving and retired civil servants only whereas the complaining pensioners and senior citizens do not belong to the class of civil servants.
Is the government for the benefit of civil servants only? If not, how does it expect the Employees Old-age Benefit Institution (EOBI) pensioners to survive on a monthly pension of Rs5,250 only? To add to the woes of the non-civil servant class, the government has withheld benents ofthosefalling underthe Benazir Employees Stock Option Scheme since 2010.
