SUKKUR: The custodian of Fazil Shah Jilani shrine, Syed Bhooral Shah, 55, was shot dead by two unknown assailants riding a motorcycle near Bagarji town late on Thursday night.

According to officials at the Tamachani police station of Sukkur, Syed Bhooral Shah, a descendent of Pir of Ranipur, was strolling in a farm near the town when the assailants targeted him and sped away.

Several hundred disciples of the Pir of Ranipur and Syed Bhooral Shah rushed to the spot as the news of the incident spread in the area like a wildfire.

According to the police, the murder might be linked with a land dispute between the victim and his rivals within the Syed community of the area. They said a suspect, Mujahid Shah, who was detained for interrogation soon after the incident, confessed to have been involved in the attack.

They quoted the suspect as saying that `Bhooral Shah was responsible for my brother Ashiq Shah`s murder in 1999; he was killed in revenge`.-Correspondent
