KARAK: MPAs Mian Nisar Gul and Malik Zafar Azam have expressed their resentment over the dysfunctional drinking water supply schemes in parts of the district and held the head of Public Health Engineering Department, Karak, responsible forit.

They were speaking at a meeting with the PHED of ficials here on Friday. They told the meeting that the water supply schemes in many areas were dysfunctional for long, creating problems for the people.

They claimed that the schemes could be made functional by spending a small amount of funds, but the department had so far f ailed to resolve the problem. They said that the of ficials were not fulfilling their responsibility to ensure provision of potable water to the people.

They warned that action would be taken against the of ficials if the problem was not resolved immediately.

Meanwhile, the residents of Karak city and adjoining localities demanded fumigation in the area to eliminate mosquitoes and protect people from diseases.

The demand was made in a meeting of local elders, which was chaired by Malik Zawar Khan here on Friday.

They said that stagnant water in the area was providing breeding places for mosquitoes.

The elders demanded of the tehsil municipal administration, Karak, to conduct anti-mosquito spray in the area to control seasonal diseases and also take steps for drainage of stagnant water in the city.
