Five injured over land dispute in Bajaur

BAJAUR: An exchange of gunfire between rival groups over a land dispute left five people injured in Khar tehsil here on Saturday evening, according to Rescue 1122.

It said the incident occurred in Chingazo area, when members of rival families traded fire after a heated argument.

In a statement, the rescue service said that five people, a woman among them, were injured in the exchange of fire.

The injured included Amir Zaman, 60, Gul Ameen, 55, Sher Zameen, 35, Habibullah, 25 and unnamed woman. They were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital, Khar, for treatment.

Meanwhile, the district administration on Saturday sealed over 10 arms shops for running without licences in Nawagai Bazaar.

A joint team of the district administration and police sealed the shops during a crackdown on illegal arms outlets, according to a statement issued from the deputy commissioner`s office.

It said that the crackdown was led by the Nawagai assistant commissioner.

The statement claimed that the district administration had frequently directed the owners of the arms outlets to register their businesses, but to no avail, promoting the crackdown.

The statement said that besides the sealing of these outlets, the administration had also launched legal action against the owners.
