Literary festival begins with pledge to revive cultural activities

PESHAWAR: Literati, scholars and artists gathered to begin second season of Peshawar Literary Festival (PLF) in Nishtar H all here on Saturday with the ple dge to reclaim literary and cultural activities of the city.

Writers, rights activists and young graduates turned up at the event in a large numbers. The two-day event was arranged under the banner of Literature, Arts and Development Organisation (Cladio) in collaboration with provincial directorate of youth affairs and Bank of Khyber.

Through several sessions on the opening day of the event, speakers stressed the need for promoting a voice for peace and universal values towards a just and inclusive society.

Senior politician Farhatullah Babar in his opening remarks said that all the federating units of the country should extend cooperation to each otherfor strengthening mutual ties and promoting national unity.

Prof Nasir Jamal Khattak on the occasion said that coordinated efforts were required for reclaiming literary and cultural values. He said that youth should come forward to contribute to the social cause through their talent.

Workshops on theatre art, screenplay, creative writing and content creation were also part of the event.

Dr Anosh Hhan while addressing a panel debate highlighted the concept of citizenship and responsibilities associated with it asking youth to shoulder important duties for a balanced society.

Abdur Rahman Afridi, chief of Cladio, briefly showcased the salient features of the festival pledging that his organisation would continue efforts for reviving literary and cultural spirit of the city.

The provincial secretary of youth affairs and sports, Ziaur Rahman, delivered a talk on the critical role of young people in shaping the political, economic and literary landscape of the country.

Later, a multilingual poetry recitation session was held in which poets read out their poetic pieces laden with love for peace and social cohesion. Also, Asfandyar Khattak performed the traditional Pakhtun attanr dance.
