Over 1,700 litres of unhealthy juice seized

TAXILA: Officials of the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Thursday seized over 1,700 litres of substandard juice during a raid on a beverage warehouse located on Hazara Road in Hassanabdal.

The enforcement team of the department also imposed a fine on the food business operator (FBO).

According to the authority, harmful chemicals were used in the preparation of juice which was distributed in district Attock, Haripur, Rawalpindi and other neighbouring towns.

`The juice was prepared to be sold to children. It was packaged in dif ferent sizes of tetra pack and supplied to the market,` said PFA Deputy Director Mehtab Ahmed Khan, adding business operators were using chemicals and expired navours in the preparadon of juices.

He said that the authority was taking every necessary step to ensure that wholesome and pure food was prepared for the masses.

We are working over every precautionary measure to standardise quality food for the general public, he added.Moreover, people may lodge complaints regarding food on PFA`s official website, mobile application or toll free number (0800-80500),he added.

Furthermore, in Taxila, the local administration acting on a tip off provided by the special branch of police raided a wheat warehouse and seized a huge quantity of smuggled wheat and fertiliser. Sources said a team comprising officials from the food and agriculture department, led by Assistant Commissioner Marhaba Nemat Shan raided a warehouse, located on Railway Road. The team found 400 bags of 50 kilogrammes of wheat that was smuggled from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and stored for sale illegally.

A large amount of fertiliser and di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) was also seized. No record or inventory for it was found by the team. Talking to journalists, Ms Marhaba said during the crackdown, the owner was booked as per law while the warehouse was sealed for further legal action. Correspondent
