News agencies [Meanwhile, according to Dawn`s staff correspondent,] Three refugee settlements will soon be established at Manghopir, Landhi and Malir to ease the Karachi housing problem, disclosed Mr Hashim Raza, Administrator of Karachi on Saturday [June 3]. He said that due to the scarcity of pure water only such suburban areas could be utilised at present where there were sweet-water wells or springs.
About 250 families, out of a total of over 900 families living in huts around various hospitals in the city, have been asked to shift to Manghopir, a village a few miles from the city.
Due to the presence of sweet-water springs andalsotransportfacilities,theAdministrator hoped that the refugees would soon be absorbed in the village economy there.
