WITH Eidul Azha just days away, cattle markets are brimming with extremely high-priced sacrificial animals, making it difficult for many to fulfil the religious obligation with the required peace of heart, mind and soul.
One of the reasons behind the high prices is the shift in mindset that is troubling.
For many, sacrifice seems to have become more about showing off expensive animals rather than following the true spirit of the ritual. The actual purpose of the sacred act is to demonstrate obedience to the Supreme Power, reflect on the value of sacrifice, and share blessings with those in need.
Sadly, in the race to impress others, we are forgetting the true meaning of the act. Social media posts, decorated animals, and comparisons between who bought what have taken the centrestage.
This defeats the essence of the religious occasion. It is time we reminded ourselves that what matters is our intention, and not the price tag.Letus allreturn to the core of this beautiful obligation with sincerity, humility and brotherhood.
