Young cyclist seeks help to participate in world contests

MARDAN: A young cyclist has demanded of the federal and provincial governments to help him financially so that he can participate in the international cycling competitions.

`I have won 14 medals, including three gold, in national cycling contests but due to financial problems I am still unable to represent Pakistan at the internationallevel,` Sanaullah, 23, told Dawn here on Tuesday.

He said that he had been participating in cycling races for the past six years and had been the national champion by winning gold medals for last three years.

`The total number of medals I have won so far is 36, but despite this I am unable to participate in international competitions due to lack of financial resources,` he regretted.

Sanaullah said that he had won the national cycling race in 2023, 2024, and 2025.

The young cyclist said: `I was selected for international cycling competitions to be held in Tajikistan in 2023, Iran in 2024, and Thailand in 2025, but could not make it there dueto lack of financial resources.

Sanaullah said: `I was fond of cycling since childhood. But due to financial hurdles, I used to collect one thing at a time helmets, shoes, etc. for participating in cycling races in the beginning.

`Whenever Iwon an event, Iwould buy a bicycle, kit, etc. with the money I received,` he said.

The young cyclist said that he initially participate d in the race with an old model bicycle that cost Rs60,000, but later bought a 2016 model bicycle for Rs300,000.

`Now I have a 2022 model bicycle which cost me Rs500,000. The price of a new model bicycle is between Rs4 to Rs5 million,` he said.

Sanaullah said he still had the opportunity to perform. `However, if one more year passes, then I would be considered as a senior cyclist.

Sanaullah requested the federal and provincial governments to provide him with financial assistance and give him an opportunity to participate in international competitions so that he could bring glory to Pakistan. Correspondent
