Red alert in flood-hit Chitral

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has declared red alert in the flood-hit areas in Chitral that caused loss of human lives and damage to property.

The chief minister announced compensation for the loss of precious human lives and damage to property, said an of ficial statement here on Sunday.

Expressing grief and concern over the loss of precious human lives and property, the chief minister directed the district administration and Provincial Disaster Management Authority for accelerated rescue operation and evacuation of stranded people.

A helicopter has been arranged for the swift rescue operation. Rescue, relief and rehabilitation of the af fected people were the top priority, the district administration and the PDMA should carry out till evacuation of the last affected person, he said.

There should be a joint relief and rescue operation with the NDMA and army.

The chief minister said that an amount of Rs50 million had been released for the provision of food and other necessary items to mitigate the hardships and suf fering of the affected people.

He directed for accelerated efforts for distribution relief goods and 500 tents in addition to blankets and other items among the flood-affected people. The provision of relief goods should not be a problem, he added.

The chief minister directed the officials concerned to prepare a detailed report on the loss of human lives, injured persons and damaged property. The government, he said, would prepare an overall recovery plan for all the losses and damage in the flood.-Bureau Report
