Three proclaimed offenders held after encounter in Karak

KARAK: Police claimed to have arrested three proclaimed offenders following an encounter in which one of the offenders was injured.

A police press release said here on Sunday that they raided the hideout of proclaimed offenders in Shankai Banda area of Takht-iNusrati tehsil and as soon as the POs saw the police party, led by DPO Mian Naseeb Jan himself, they started firing on them.

In retaliatory firing one of the POs identified as Gulfam sustained injuries and his father Kalo Khan and their friend Farzand Ali were arrested. Police also recovered two Kalashnikovs, five hand grenades, one 30-bore pistol and a car from them.

The statement said that Gulfam had allegedly killed his wife in a room of their house sometime back with the help of his father Kalo Khan after she allegedly refused to prepare meal for them.

The parents of the slain woman had lodged an FIR in Talcht-i-Nusrati police station that their daughter had been killed by her husband and father-in-law. According to police, the arrested husband and father-inlaw of the woman had conceded during investigations to have killed her.Meanwhile, the DPO told a press conference at his office that SHO of Takht-eNusrati police st ation had been suspended for ignoring the FIR of the woman`s parents. He said that a departmental inquiry had been initiated against SHO Zeeshan.

He also said that firing in the air on eve of Eidul Fitr had been banned in the district.

SCHOLARSHIPS: Bright Future Mine Labour Union distributed Rs2.2 million among the labourers of gypsum as educational scholarships of their children here on Sunday.

A ceremony in this regard was held at Chongi area which was attended by assistant commissioner of Miners welfare Commissionerate Mr Tahir as a chief guest, lease owner Mian Libab Gul, union president Mehmood Shah and local miners.

On this occasion, Mr Tahir resolved to provide all basic facilities to the labourers. He claimed that the government was sincere to improve the quality of life of labourers and provide better opportunities of education to their children.
