SHEIKHUPURA: A large number of farmers held a demonstration in front of local irrigation offices on Monday against non-availability of canal water.

The protesters gathered in front of Upper Chanab Canal Executive Engineer Office and chanted slogans against the `stepmotherly conduct` of officers.

Protest leader Muhammad Ashig told reporters that the Barianwala Rajbah waterwas being stolen by influential landlords with the connivance of the irrigation staff.

He said since the landlords had installed PVC pipes in the canal, water did not reach tails.
