Mentally challenged woman stabs three sons; two critical

DERA GHAZI KHAN: A mentally challenged woman stabbed her three minor sons, causing them injuries here on Wednesday in Three Marla Scheme adjacent to Model Town in Civil Lines police precincts.

The children were shifted to Allama Iqbal Teaching Hospital, where the condition of two of them is said to be critical.

According to Moin Akhtar, the father of the children, his wife, who is mentally ill, attacked their sons Deen Muhammad (5), Shahwaiz (4) and fivemonth-old Shah Zain (5) with a knife.

Intensive Care Unit In-charge Dr. Abrar Hussain said the condition of two children is critical and all possible medical assistance is being provided. Police have arrested the suspect.

SUICIDE ATTEMPT: A police team rescued a man, Tanveer, a resident of Chowk Chorhatta, who attempted suicide by jumping into the Indus at Ghazi Ghat bridge along with three children.

Reports said Tanveerwas fed up with inflation and domestic conditions and attempted suicide along with his three children.

VISIT: South Punjab Secretary (Canals) Ijaz Khalig Razzaqi on Wednesday visited Taunsa barrage in Dera Ghazi Khan zone and reviewed the ongoing development works there.

He was briefed by the officials. The secretary also visited Surilund and Sanghar mountain drains and reviewed the measures takentopreventthe expected floods.

In this regard, necessary instructions were issued to the officers present on the spot.

The secretary said timely evacuation of the population of sensitive places and low-lying areas should be ensured so that life and property can be secured. Weak embankments should be strengthened by ensuring sanitation.

The natural channels of rivers and mountains should be cleared of obstructions and encroachments so that the flood water can have a safe path to the river.

He said that negligence andlack ofinterest in duties would not be tolerated.
