LAHORE: Din Mohammad, Pakistan`s first Asian Games gold medallist, passed away after prolonged illness here on Thursday at 89. He was buried at a local graveyard.
Din Mohammad clinched gold in the fly-weight category at the 1954 Asian Games in Manila. Besides the Asian Games gold, Din Mohammad also brought home a bronze medal from the Commonwealth Games.
Born in Jalandhar, India, in 1936, he migrated to Faisalabad, Pakistan, in 1947 and began his wrestling career.
He remained national champion for many years.-Sports Reporter
