KARACHI: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Monem Zafar Khan has urged Karachiites to stand up for their rights and asked them to put up `resistance` against the Pakistan Peoples Party in Sindh while highlighting 52,000 traffic challan in just two months, `use of excessive force, impounded bikes, arrogance and bribery on part of the traffic police` among other issues.
Addressing a press conference at Idara Noor-i-Haq on Thursday, the JI chief also chided the police chief over threatening the people of Karachi with doubling fines, cancelling licences and blocking CNICs for delay in paying fines. He dubbed the statements as insult to the people.
`All the strictness, rules and regulations are for Karachiites but what about facilities? Do you know how people are surviving? We strongly condemn the traffic police for targeting bikers as majority of Karachiites use 4.5 million bikes as means of transportation. We at the same time urge the youth to use helmet, keep license and follow traffic rules but never accept injustice of corruption,` he added.
The JI leader announced that the party would establish a help desk at all the district offices to support the victims of traffic police.
