LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-iInsaf (PTI) on Sunday released a dossier about `political victimisation and human rights abuses` on its founder Imran Khan, leaders and party workers.
The 12-page dossier, titled `Detention of former Prime Minister Imran Khan: Political victimisation and human rights abuses (Aug 2023 Aug 2025)`, claims to chronicle the timeline of events, abuses, judicial manipulation, human rights violations and electioninterference.
Releasing the dossier, PTI Punjab media cell head Shayan Bashir said Imran Khan, since his ouster in April 2022, had been subjected to an unprecedented cam-paign of prosecutions and imprisonment widely condemned as `false and fabricated` political victimisation.
He said the report`s findings were a scathing indictment of the government`s actions, which he termed `arbitrary, manipulative, and draconian`.
The report said that by Aug 2025, Mr Khan was facing over 186 FIRs nationwide and he was convicted in key cases under highly questionable circumstances notably the Toshakhana cases, an `official secrets` cipher case, and the Al-Qadir Trust land-graft case. It said that all these cases had procedural irregularities and closed-door trials were held.
The report claimed that after the party won by a landslide in Feb 8, 2024 elections, the regime nullified that victory through election rigging (banning PTI`s bat symbol, altering vote tallies in Forms 45 and 47). It said that PTI`s peaceful protests were met with brutal force the Nov 2024 Islamabad rally was dispersed with tear gas, bullets and allegedly `shoot-to-kill` orders.
It alleged that Mr Khan`s detention itself violated basic rights as he was kept in solitary confinement with no naturallight or clean water, frequent denial of lawyers and family access, and his wife endured squalid, rat-infested jail.
It said that international bodies also decried these abuses. The report cited the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention that had declared his imprisonment `without legal basis` and called for his immediate release. It said, `Amnesty International, HRW, the IBA Human Rights Institute and other bodies demanded Pakistan vacate the politicised convictions, restore due process, and allow Khan to regain his rightful political standing`.
The dossier called for `fair retrials` of Mr Khan and other opposition figures, with `independent` benches and international observers to ensure genuine justice. It stressed that any evidence obtained under duress or contradictory testimony should be discarded.
The dossier also demanded the creation of an impartial commission to investigate law-enforcement excesses, including attack on peacefulprotesters, forced disappearances, and jail abuses. It also calledfor restoration ofelectoraljustice, with the Election Commission publishing all polling data and ordering freshpolls in disputed constituencies, if necessary.
Highlighting the political rights violations and media censorship, the dossier called for the protection of freedom of assembly, speech, and association. It demanded the release of all political prisoners detained for peaceful expression, including Khan`s supporters and PTI politicians. The report also urged the international community to continue monitoring Pakistan`s compliance and press Islamabad to implement these recommendations.
Criticising the incumbent government, the dossier said that the slide into authoritarianism must be reversed, and democratic legitimacy restored. `The people of Pakistan deserve nothing less, it said.
Mr Bashir said the government must recognise the gravity of the situation and take concrete steps to restore legality and justice. `The international community must also play its part in ensuring that Pakistan`s democratic institutions are strengthened, and the rule of law is upheld. The fate of Pakistan`s democracy hangs in the balance, and it is time for decisive action,` he said.
