KARACHI: ... The Shahinshah of Iran has offered to mediate in the dispute between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Pakistan has accepted the offer. A spokesman of the Pakistan Foreign Office said yesterday [Aug 3] that the offer was made by the Shahinshah to the Ambassadors of the two Governments in Teheran on Id day.
The Shahinshah said that in the present world context it was of utmost importance that the two neighbouring Islamic Governments should patch up their differences. He called upon the two Governments to stop hostile propaganda against each other for three months as the first step to bring about a peaceful settlement of the dispute. Staff correspondent [Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies in Lahore,] ...[T]he Punjab Government are now giving recommendation certificates and suitable cash rewards to persons giving information which may lead to the recovery of [H]indu and Sikh abducted women in West Pakistan. This information can be communicated to the local police, or the police officers on special duty for the recovery of abducted women or to the Superintendent of Police concerned at the `Pipals` in Lahore.
