12-day anti-measles drive ends peacefully in Bajaur

KHAR: The 12-day anti-measles drive ended peacefully in Bajaur Agency achieving its goal of vaccinating maximum number of children against lethal disease across the tribal region.

`Although the anti-measles campaign under the uncertain situation in the region was a tough and challenging job for us but we succeeded in our mission because of our strong commitment and proper strategy,` agency surgeon Dr Zakir Hussain told reporters during a press briefing here on Thursday.

He claimed that all the 422,000 children aged between six months and 10 years, who had been targeted for the drive, were vaccinated against the deadly disease during the massive activities launched from August 20.

The agency surgeon said that no untoward incident happened nor any reaction cases were reported in any parts of the agency during the 12 days long drive due to appropriate management and strategy adopted by the local health department.

He said the staff for the campaign was skilled and professional and they had also been given proper training and guidance before the drive.

However, the official said, some challenges and problems were faced by the locals during the drive including refusal cases, but they were overcome due to timely intervention of the local administration. Correspondent
