LAKKI MARWAT: Former federal minister for inter-provincial coordination Salim Saifullah Khan has said that with the establishment of the local government the vision to bring development to the backward Lakki district will be fully implemented.

He was addressing a public gathering at the residence of district nazim Ishfag Ahmad Meenakhel in Lakki city on Thursday. District councillors Munawar Khan and Samiullah Khan, and PPP office-bearers Din Mohammad and Ihsanullah Khan were also present on the occasion.

Mr Saifullah said that the Lakki local government would make the district a model one and would resolve the problems being faced by people. He claimed that their political rivals did not want development of the district like other parts of the province.

`Our political opponents have no concrete agenda to provide basic amenities of life to the residents,` he claimed and hoped that the district government would work hard to root out corruption, promote transparency in government departments and improve service delivery system.

`The performance of our district government will directly impact the future general elections. We will win the future elections to the one national and three provincial assembly seats on the basis of the performance of local government, he stated.

Mr Meenalchel said that the residents of almost all rural and urban localities had access to clean drinking water and the credit for this went to Saifullah brothers. He pledged that he would work for the betterment of people.

BLASTS IN FR LAKKI: Unknown miscreants blew up two government installations in the Frontier Region (FR) of Lakki Marwat on the night between Wednesday and Thursday. However, no one was hurt.

An official source said that homemade explosive devices planted by miscreants went off with a bang at midnight. `The explosions caused damage to a sports stadium and underconstruction community health centre in Shadikhel area, he said.

The source said that the rooms and boundary walls of both the institutions were destroyed in the explosions. He said that the blasts created panic among the tribal people but no one was hurt. He said that following the blasts security had been tightened in the entire tribal region.
