KARACHI, Oct 3: The city remained in the grip of the heatwave that has enveloped the metropolis for the past few days and the mercury on Thursday climbed on the scale and touched the mark of 40 degrees centigrade, said a meteorological department official, adding that weather conditions were expected to remain the same for the next couple of days.
Responding to Dawn queries, the official said that it was the last spell of heatwave as the summer was coming to an end and soon the weather would start getting cool.
He said the minimum temperature recorded on Thursday was 29.5 degrees centigrade and humidity ameasure of moisture in the air recorded was 37 per cent.
He said the weather in the city was expected to remain hot and dry on Friday, when the maximum temperature would range from 39 to 41 degrees centigrade.
He said the rest of the province also remained in the grip of the heatwave though the temperature remained slightly less than that of the city and the maximum temperature on Thursday in Sindh was recorded at Nawabshah and Chhor, where the mercury touched the mark of 41 degrees centigrade.
The maximum temperatures recorded in other cities of the province were: Sukkur and Hyderabad 38 degrees centigrade; Jacobabad 37, and Larkana 36 degrees centigrade.
