THIS is apropos Syed Abrar Hussaini`s letter `Page is missing` (Oct 21).
The writer has provided readers real delight by bringing on surface an amusing episode created by the BBC news reader that happened decades ago for which his memory deserves to be commended.
On the sidelines of this incident I am reminded of Radio Pakistan`slegendary news readers like Shakil Ahmed and Anwar Behzad whose delivery of news was simply unmatched and the listeners were glued to their radio sets till the end.
It was news and only news from start to end with no breaks for ads.
This was the golden era of news listening.
Reverting to the present mode of news casting it is simply disgusting tofind in all FM channels that in a sixminute bulletin of hot news, it is 40pc news and the rest is consumed by ads and music.
The speed with which news is read out is irksome, which senior citizens are unable to catch. I am at a loss to comprehend why our news readers talk so fast? A. RAUF SOZER Karachi
