Pakistanisation of foreign firms` staff soon

KARACHI: All posts in foreign firms with a monthly salary of less than Rs1,000 will be Pakistanised by next year throughout the country, according to competent sources.

By now, 1,23,142 posts with a salary of less than Rs1,000 have been filled by Pakistan nationals, while only 607 posts are held by the foreigners, providing employment to Pakistanis under this category at 98 per cent.

There are 656 posts in foreign firms carrying a salary of over Rs2,500 per month, of which about 170 are now held by Pakistanis.

The posts with monthly salary ranging between Rs1,000 and Rs2,500 total 1,895, of which 1,373 are now with Pakistanis.

At least 50 per cent of posts carrying monthly salary of over Rs2,500 are to be Pakistanised by 1967 in the case of industrial under-November 4, 1963 takings, and by 1966 in other firms.

An official spokesman of the Investment Promotion Department, which is enforcing the Pakistanisation policy, told `Dawn` yesterday that under the scheme, the ratio of Pakistani employees was improving.

The policy of progressive Pakistanisation of foreign firms was ordered by President Ayub Khan himself and after examination by the Foreign Investment Committee in 1960, its implementation was taken in hand.

In order to achieve progressive Pakistanisation of foreign firms according to the schedule, the Pakistan Government has ordered that its prior permission was necessary for employment or renewal of contracts of any foreigner on salary or commission basis. Staff Correspondent •
