I S L A M A B A D : Expressway of Islamabad was blocl(ed for hours on Saturday by residents of Sadiqabad protesting the arrest of two residents of their area by Rawalpindi Police.

The protesters pelted vehicles with stones and made attempts to set them on fire creating panic among motorists.

Tyres, garbage and tree branches were set on fire and used to block the road.

The capital police tried to negotiate with the protesters who were demanding immediate release of those arrested.

The capital police expressed their helplessness in the matter stating that since the two persons were arrested by Rawalpindi police, only they could release them.

Police said they requested the protesters to disperse as they were violating Section 144 of PPC which was in place in the capital.

Somehow the police convinced the protesters to disperse.
