Govt, ECP criticised over Khairpur violence

KARACHI: Several writers, activists of nationalist parties and lawmakers belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club against a gun attack in a Khairpur constituency during the Erst phase of the local government elections.

Representatives of nationalist parties including Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, Awami Jamhoori Party and Qaumi Awami Tehrik participated in the demonstration, which was organised by the Sindh Writers and Thinkers Forum.

The Oct 31 violence lef t 11 people dead and 15 others wounded in the Daraza union council area. Most of them were later identified as PML-F workers and supporters.The protesters, including five PML-F lawmal(ers, were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans against the Sindh government. They criticised the government over its alleged failure in maintaining rule of law on the day of polling.

Besides,they alsoheld the Election Commission of Pakistan responsible for failing to ensure peaceful and transparent election process.-Staff Reporter
