Postal employees seek resolution of problems

2015-11-04
ISLAMABAD: Post offices located in Islamabad are facing a myriad of problems due to the alleged apathy of the authorities concerned.

Employees of the department complained that there was shortage of stationery in all post offices. They said they had repeatedly informed the postmaster general (PMG) Islamabad division to provide stationery but to no avail.

TheNationalOrganisation of Postal Employees Union also complained that the employees had not been paid their honoraria due to official red tape. Besides, medical bills of the employees are also withheld without any reason.

The post offices are also short of manpower but new inductions have not been made, putting extra workload on the staff.

Most post offices do not have proper security arrangements. The unionleaders demanded that guards should be deputed at all post offices.

Another problem raised by the postal employees was the increase in the weight of parcels from 10 kilogrammes to 50 kilogrammes which was very difficult for employees to distribute. They said the distribution of parcels should be through vans instead of postal workers.

Fuel charges incurred by using motorcycles should also be paid to them on time, the workers added.

The secretary general of the postal employees union, Saleem Khokhar, said they informed Postmaster General Badar Zaman of their problems but no remedial measures were being taken.

Despite repeated attempts, the postmaster general could not be contacted for comments.Staf f Reporter
