PESHAWAR: Low pressure of natural gas in variouslocalitieshere hasirked the domestic consumers who have demanded of the Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited to ensure smooth supply of the gas.
Talking to mediapersons here on Thursday, Peshawar District Council member Haji Karim Jan said that Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited had started gasloadsheddingin the peak morning and evening hours, making lives of the citizens miserable.
`We are the elected representatives of Hazarkhwani, Ring Road, where the people daily complain of the gas outages and we are unable to face them,` he complained.
The people, he said, were compelled to send their children to schools without breakfast due to gas outages and the same was the position of employees of variou s government depar tments and private organisations.
Mr Jan said that the local people were ready to protest against Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited because they were facing severe problems in preparation of food.
He claimed that the gas supply was su spende d early in the morning and restored at daytime and again it was kept suspended during peak evening time and restored only after midnight.
The councillor said that the residents had bought LPG cylinders, but it was so costly that common citizens could not afford it.
Most of the people, he said, were living in rented buildings where use of firewood was also not allowed and the citizens had to purchase cooked food from bazaars.
When contacted, an official of SNGPL said that population was fast increasing and the people were in the habit of sharing own supply of gas with neighbours, which had complicated the issue.
He also blamed the authorities concerned for failure to expedite work on the laying of new pipelines to avoid loss of gas.
He said that in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa there was no shortage ofnaturalgas, but thef t was the major cause of low pressure.
He said that no consumer could share own connection with neighbours.
