Only school in Mohmand remote area lacks facilities

GHALANI: The only community model primary school for girls and boys in Sialogo area of Pandilai tehsil in Mohmand Agency is without boundary wall, bathrooms and others basic facilities.

Keeping in view the low female literacy rate in the area, National Education Foundation (NEF), Islamabad established the school in 2003. The establishment of the school and appointment of two qualified teachers bore fruit as a good number of girls and boys started attending the educational institution.

However, presently the students face numerous problems owing to absence of boundary wall, bathrooms and electricity in the school. There is no playground for girl students in the school.

During a visit to the school, it was observed that students were sitting in the open and there were neither mats nor desks for them. The students were seen consuming contaminated water.

Tamash Khan, the only teacher in theschool, said that he received only Rs5000 per month as salary. `There are no chairs and tables for teachers in the school but Iperform duty here to teach the students of my village,` he said. He said that the school had no proper building and bound-ary wall that`s why it remained closed in rainy days.

Ali Shah, a 5th grade student, said that they brought drinking water from the nearby spring. He said that he covered a distance of three kilometres to come to the school. `There are no chairs and drinking water facility in the school,` he added.

Saba Gul, another student, said that the school had no boundary wall owing to which sometimes animals entered it and sacred students.

Faieda, a student of grade II, said that she wanted to play during break but there was no playground in the school. She said that students consumed contaminated water, which caused health problems to them.

Zahir Khan, a resident of the area, said that there was not a single government primary school for boys in Sialogo and Beera Meena areas of Pandilai tehsil.

Baghi Said, a local resident, said that the school administration had sent countless reminders and requests to the local administration and education department to resolve the problems but to no avail.
