Education reforms

2017-11-04
THIS is apropos Ravale Mohydin`s article on Education Reforms (Oct 26). I was impressed by her summation of the education reforms over the years in Pakistan and yet without any results.

Like the writer, I also wonder about this phenomenon. However, my conclusion is that unless top leadership of the country is committed to education, nothing will change.

For example, in the field of family planning [in which Pakistan has also f ailed] in a global analysis it was found that f amily planning programmes succeeded in countries like Indonesia, South Korea and Bangladesh where top leaderships in the countries were totally committed. They provided financial and administrative support as well as vision to ensure success of the programmes.

Pakistanishave alsoproven successin programmes to which their leaders are committed. Making roads and metro buses are two of the examples.

Unfortunately, education and health are not national priorities, and commitment to these sectors is limited to lip-service.
