LAHORE: The security staff of the metrobus service in Lahore staged a protest on Friday, causing a temporary halt in service due to unpaid salaries for the past three months.
Up to 700 employees participated in the protest at Kalma Chowk. They said they had not received their salaries for three months and were facing threats of potential job termination from the company.
The employees said that they had been trying to obtain their overdue salaries, but their pleas seemed to have fallen on deaf ears.
This financial crisis had left them unable to meet their daily household expenses.
On the intervention of Provincial Transport Minister Ibrahim Hasan Murad, PMA Secretary Farooq Sadiq said the track had been restored, and the contractor responsible for the delayed salaries had been directed to make the payments to the employees.
He acknowledged a minor delay in the salary disbursement process from the contractor’s end.
