LPG cylinder explosion triggers market blaze

LAHORE: Five people were injured in a house fire and valuables worth millions gutted in three incidents in all in the city on Sunday.
In the first incident, four children and their mother suffered burns when a fire broke out in their house in Faisal Town in the morning. The fire broke out in the drawing room of the house around Sam when all the family members were asleep.
One of the family members spotted the fire and tried to control it.
On noticing smoke rising from the house, some of the locals rushed tothe spot to help the family and also called Rescue 1122 emergency service. The Rescue teams reached the spot and controlled the fire after an hour or two.
The Rescuers also shifted the injured to Jinnah Hospital where they were said to be stable. The injured were identified as one-yearold Husain, eight-year-old Qaim Ali, Ali Raza, 12, Noor Fatima, 16 and their 35-year-old mother Rukhsana.
However, the family alleged the Rescue teams arrived on the scene late, otherwise, the loss caused by the blaze could have been contained.
In another incident, valuables worth millions were reduced to ashes when fire erupted in a furniture market at Haji Chowk in Johar Town.
According to witnesses, the fire erupted when a gas cylinder exploded at an LPG decanting shop in the market and engulfed othergas cylinders stored there. The fire was so intense that it spread to furniture shops in the market in no time, they said.
As many as 12 firefighting vehicles of Rescue 1122, along with Wasa fire-engines reached the spot and tried to extinguish the blaze.
They succeeded in controlling the fire af ter two hours of hectic ef fort.
The incident created panic in the locality as residential area and a marriage hall were also situated close to the site.
Rescue spokesperson Muhammad Farooq said containing fire was a challenge for them, especially on the side of marriage hall.
The fire was so massive that flames and clouds of smoke could be seen from around five kilometers away from the scene. However, no loss of life or injury was reported in the incident.
The third fire incident occurred in a house on Amir Road in whichvaluables worth millions were gutted.
Firefighters called by the house occupants later extinguished the blaze.
KILLED: Two motorcyclists were killed when a speeding tractor-trolley hit them near Askri-11 locality early on Sunday.
Police said Shad Ali (28) and his relative Manzoor (24) were on a motorcycle when a tractor-trolley hit them near Askri-11.
As a result, both the motorcyclists lost their balance fell on the road, suffered serious injuries.
Rescue 1122 ambulances shifted them to hospital where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.
Police removed the bodies to morgue for an autopsy and also registered a case against unidentified driver.
The police said the driver fled the scene, leaving the tractor-trolley on the road.
