`IF you speak to a man in a language he understands, you speak tohis head.Ifyou speak to a man in his own language, you speak to his heart.` (Nelson Mandela, 2007) In Pakistan, the medium of instruction is the main reason for students who fail their examinations. English is said to be our second language, but in reality most of the students speak Punjabi at home; outside they speak Urdu as second language but in schools they are forced to speak English, which is actually their third language.
Students are confused with this language mess, which has ruined the lives of many students. They don`t fully understand English and are forced to cram it. Even the simplest of concepts are beyond their comprehension. They fail and feel that education is something very difficult and move away from their educationalinstitutes.
The government should realize our language policy needs to be revised.
