LAHORE: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on Monday between the Pakistan Television (PTV) Corporation and the Lahore Arts Council (LAC) in connection with ‘Voice of Punjab singing competition’ at Alhamra Art Centre, The Mall.

The agreement was signed by Information and Culture Secretary Bilal Ahmed and PTV Managing Director Arshad Khan.

Punjab Council of the Arts Executive Director Saman Rai, LAC Executive Director Athar Ali Khan and Punjab Institute of Language, Art and Culture Director General Sughra Sadaf were also there.

Provincial Minister for Information and Culture Fayazul Hassan Chohan said the Voice of Punjab would bring forward young talent in singing to follow the footsteps of the likes of Mehdi Hassan, Noor Jehan, Alam Lohar and other leading singers.

“Now the melodious voices which could not be brought forward due to non-provision of opportunity would appear before the public,” said the minister. “These tunes will resound across the country. All those aspiring to be singers would be given full opportunity to exhibit their talent,” he added.

He said the Voice of Punjab would be telecast by PTV and the revenue generated through it would be distributed between the Information and Culture Department and the PTV.—Staff Reporter
