PESHAWAR: Keeping in view the prevailing law and order situation, security has been beefed up and put on high alert in the provincial capital.

Following the orders issued from office of the capital city police chief on Saturday, private and passenger vehicles are being thoroughly checked and identification of owners and passengers is being verified.

`Every single vehicle on entry and exit points of the provincial capital is being checked with the passengers being asked to identify themselves,` a senior official said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Zahid Alam told Dawn that they had a proper system to check criminal record of the suspects. `This is the reason that we are asking people to produce their identity cards, he added. Bureau Report
