Buying spree continues on cotton market

KARACHI: Buyers for the second consecutive session on Saturday remained in the forefront of the cotton market amid rising global prices and lower arrivals of phutti (seed cotton).

However, short supply of quality cotton inhibited trading volume to expand andmanyspinnersreturned disappointed. However, there were a couple of biglot deals unahsed by leading spinners who paidhigherprices,brokers said.

Ginners also tried to capitalise on the situation and only accepted higher bids.

Consequently, most of the deals were transpired at higher rates, brokers added.

The Karachi Cotton Association also raised its spot rates by Rs50, to Rs6,750 per maund (around 37 kilograms), which is this season`s highest rate.

Major deals on the ready counter were: 5,074 bales from Sadigabad at Rs7,000, 3,400 bales from Khanpur at Rs7,000, 1,000 bales f romAhmedpur at Rs6,900, 600 bales from Hasilpur at Rs6,950, 400 bales from Yazman Mandi at Rs6,800, 400 bales from Haroonabadat Rs6,900 and 200 bales from Jalalpur at Rs7,150.

Meanwhile, New York and other cotton markets continued to rise upward.
