KARACHI: The Majlis-iWahdatul Muslimeen (MWM) on Monday demanded immediate release of Sibt-i-Asghar Zaidi, a social activist, who the party alleged was picked up by police without warrant from his home in Orangi Town.

Addressing a press conference, leaders of the MWM asked the security administration to respond to their appeal and share his whereabouts with the family as after four days, they did not know about the fate of Mr Zaidi.

`Mr Zaidi was arrested by police from his home in Orangi Town without any warrant and without sharing any cause behind the action, said Allama Ahmed Iqbal Rizvi, the MWM deputy secretary general. `Mr Zaidi is well known in the area for his social work, his contribution [towards] sectarian harmony and peace and tireless efforts for the welfare of underprivileged and poor class of society. His arrest has caused serious concern among the people who respect and regard him as an honourable member of society.

He said Mr Zaidi was also serving as focal person for the Karachi commissioner and despite his civic and community services, he was taken into custody by the law-enforcement agency. He demanded of the government and the LEAs to make earnest efforts for his release.-Staff Reporter
