Statement in murder case of MQM-H activists recorded

KARACHI: An antiterrorism court on Monday recorded statement of a prosecution witness in a case pertaining to 1(illing of four men, including three activists of the Mohajir Qaumi MovementH aqigi (MQM-H).

Raees aka Mama and Ahsan Iqbal, along with their four absconding accomplices, have been charged with murdering MQM-H`s vicechairman Zafar Khan Qaimkhani, central committee members Aleem Khan and Abdul Qadir Gilani in Landhi in 2012.

On Monday, the matter was fixed before the ATC-XIII judge, who is conducting trial in the judicial complex inside the central prison.

The prosecution produced a private witness Tahir Ali who testified that he along with the victims had left Sherpao Colony to attend a meeting on Nov 29, 2012. Their car broke down on their way to meet the party chief Afaq Ahmed at his DHA residence, he said.

They were travelling in a taxi which was sprayed with bullets by four assailants at Mansehra Colony, he added.

He deposed that Hammad Siddiqui was one of the assailants, adding that Siddiqui had come there in a grey-coloured car, opened fire on the victims and fled in the same car under the cover of firing.

The witness also testified that three other accused Raees aka Mama, Ahsan Iqbal and Manzoor aka Lamba came there on motorcycles, opened fire on the taxi and fled.

The witness said the bodies were taken to the Sherpao Colony graveyard for burial and later he lodged the FIR of the incident.

The defence counsel for the detained accused cross-examined the witness.

After recording his testimony, the judge summoned other witnesses of the prosecution to testify on the next date and fixed the matter after one week.

According to the prosecution, the detained and absconding accused, said to be associated with the MQM, on direction of their leadership killed their rival MQM-Hagiqi leaders. Qaimkhani was said to be associated with MQM-H since it was formed and was second to the party chairman Afaq Ahmed.

Four co-accused, including Hammad Siddiqui and Manzoor Ahmed aka Lamba, have been declared proclaimed offenders in the present case.
