Health dept team launches probe into drugs theft at govt hospital

SIALKOT: After surfacing of video clips on social media showing theft of medicines from the store of the Government Sardar Begum Memorial Teaching Hospital, Sialkot, an investigation team of provincial health department on Wednesday launched a probe into the matter.
Surfacing on social media a few days ago video clips showed some unidentined persons loading the medicines in bulk onto vehicles from the store of the hospital being run by the provincial government under the direct supervision of Khwaja Muhammad Safdar Medical College (KMSMC) here.
The two-member investigation team comprising Dr Tariq Mehmoodand Dr Muhammad Saleem took all the official record of the hospital`s medicines stock, along with CCTV cameras footage in custody.
The team has also asked the hospital management and the store keepers to record their statements regarding the theft.
According to health department sources, the team was informed by some officials that pilferage of the hospital`s medicines stock had been going on with alleged connivance of some members of hospital`s staff who later sold these drugs to local medical stores and pharmacies.
On the other hand, KMSMC Principal Prof Dr Rehan Tariq told journalists that the departmental probe had been launched into the matter and those involved in the scam would be brought to the book.Hospital management said the volume of pilferage was yet to be assessed.
