Police bust gangs, recover booty worth Rs160m in two months

LAHORE: The provincial capital police claimed to have busted many gangs of robbers and recovered booty, including cars and gold jewelry, worth Rs160 million, from them.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Zulfiqar Hameed briefed the media about the twomonth performance of the investigation police at the Police Lines, Qila Gujjar Singh, on Wednesday.

He said these gangs were involved in murder, kidnapping for ransom, robbery, robberymurder and theft cases.

DIG Investigation Dr Inam Waheed, Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) SP Asim Iftikhar Kamboh and other police officers were present.

The CCPO said police recovered booty including 65 cars worth 150 million and 150 motorcycles from the arrested suspects during recentweeks. The suspects confessed their involvement in more than 200 criminal acts, he said, adding that illegal arms were also recovered from their possession.

Of them, he said, four suspects involved in 1(idnap for ransom were arrested in Manga Mandi area.

The police recovered Rs0.7 million ransom amount the suspects had received for releasing a kidnapped man.

Mr Hameed said the police also arrested a woman and recovered gold jewelry and other ornaments worth Rs10 million she had stolen from various houses.

Similarly, he said, an amount of Rs6 million was recovered from a suspect, Saeed, a domestic worker who had been looting families.

The CCPO said the investigation police also arrested three suspects allegedly involved in a blind murder case registered some seven years back.
