RAWALPINDI: The Meteorological Department on Tuesday issued a warning about the spread of pollen in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, advising patients to remain cautious until the third week of March. Pollen levels are expected to peak during this period.

Paper Mulberry pollen dominates the air in Islamabad, accounting for 97% of total pollen remaining 3% constitutes Acacia, Eucalyptus, Pines, Grasses, Cannabis, Dandelion and Alternaria..

The pollen concentration gradually increases with the onset of spring season and attains its peak around full bloom of flowers.

Pollen season typically ends by mid-April.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has installed surveillance devices in various sectors of Islamabad including H-8, E-8, F-10 and G-6 to monitor airborne pollen levels. People with asthma and respiratory diseases are severely impacted by the surge in pollen concentrations.
