Governor calls for measures to boost honey production

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa GovernorFaisal Karim Kundi on Tuesday pledged to discuss the issues of the honey industry with the federal government and emphasised the need for comprehensive measures to boost honey production and access to the international market.

He said this during a meeting with a delegation of the All Pakistan Beekeepers and Honey Traders Association here.

The visitors, led by association president Saleem Khan, discussed the challenges and growth opportunities of the province`s honey industry with the governor.

They highlighted the province`s significant honey production and its global reputation for quality and unique characteristics.

The delegates, however, raised concerns about marketing difficulties, price fluctuations, and the need for government support.

They also requested the governor for help in registration with theSaudi Food Authority and participation in international trade exhibitions through the Trade Development Authority.

Mr Kundi acknowledged the concerns of the honey industry`s representatives and assured them of his full help in their resolution.

He expressed optimism that federal authorities would take necessary steps to enhance the industry, including participation in global exhibitions, training of beekeepers in modern techniques, and improvement of the certification process for honey exports.

The governor also stressed the importance of aligning honey testing standards with global requirements to increase exports and strengthen the local economy.

He said that improving honey quality standards and governmentbacked initiatives could significantly boost Pakistan`s honey production and exports and thus, benefiting the country`s economy.

Meanwhile, PakistanWheelchair Cricket Council president Rukhsana Rajput met with Governor Kundi at the Governor`s House.

They discussed the upcoming Pak-Afghan Wheelchair Cricket Series and the promotion of cricket in the province.

Ms Rajput said for the first time, an international wheelchair cricket team was visiting Pakistan, which was a major achievement for special athletes. She said the series would take place from April 27 in Peshawar and Abbottabad, providing new opportunities for special players and inspiring youth to engage in sports.

Ms Rajput also highlighted the need for the rehabilitation of sports grounds, provision of modern facilities to young athletes, and creation of more sporting opportunities for special individuals. The governor appreciated the initiative and assured the visitor of his full support for promoting sports in the province. APP
