Pregnant woman gunned down by robbers

KARACHI: A pregnant woman, who was heading home along with her husband on his motorbike, was shot dead by robbers off Superhighway on Friday evening, police said.

The SITE-Superhighway Industrial Area police identified the victim as 26-year-old Saima Irfan and said that she was shot and killed at Faqeera Goth.

In a statement, a police spokesperson said that two armed robbers riding a motorcycle intercepted the couple near Pareshan Chowk, held them at gunpoint and demanded their valuables.

The spokesperson claimed that the couple put up resistance and the robbers resorted to firing, resulting in a critical bullet injury to the woman, who died on the spot.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Police Surgeon Summaiya Syed said that the victim was pregnant. She was shot at very close range and sustained a single bullet wound to the chest, she added.

Trailer kills bike-rider

Meanwhile, a heavy vehicle ran over and killed another bike-rider in the metropolis on Friday evening.

The victim was identified as Farhan Sohrab, 25. He was hit by a trailer near Steel Mills Chowrangi on National Highway.
