KARACHI: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), Karachi, has issued an urgent public appeal for medical aid to support the victims of Myanmar`s devastating earthquake that has claimed the lives of over 3,000 people.

According to a press statement, the appeal follows a direct request from the consulate general of Myanmar in Karachi, highlighting the critical need for assistance.

`The situation in Myanmar is dire; hospitals are overwhelmed and there is a severe shortage of essential medical supplies. The PMA Karachi is calling on the people of Karachi, philanthropic organisations and pharmaceutical companies to come forward and help us provide the much-needed relief, the association stated.

It`s focusing its efforts on collecting the following urgently needed items: medical equipment (e.g.

surgical instruments, orthopedic supplies, diagnostic devices), transfusion sets, first-aid kits, medicines (for instance antibiotics, pain relievers, antiseptics, vaccines) and other items (for example bandages, gauze, syringes, disinfectants, personal protective equipment).

The association has urged the public to contribute generously to this critical cause.
