QUETTA, May 4: Former district nazim of Quetta Mir Maqbool Lehri, who is running for parliament on PPP ticket, said on Saturday that the local bodies system introduced by retired Gen Pervez Musharraf was better than the present bureaucratic system.

Talking to reporters, Mr Lehri, who is a candidate forNA 259 (Quetta city), said that since police were answerable to the district government in the local bodies system it was easy to maintain law and order. In the existing system police had failed to provide security to people, he added.

Mr Lehri claimed that when he was district nazim security situation in Quettawas much better. `There was no insecurity and the ratio of serious crime was low.

He criticised the government of former chief minister Nawab Aslam Raisani and said despite having been provided with billions of rupees under the 7th NFC Award it did nothing for creating employment opportunities in the province.
